and its having devastating impacts on the land and watershed.
Increased canopy fuels and intense fire
Decreased carbon sequestration
Increased erosion
Reduced ability of soil to capture, store, and safely release water
Reduced productive potential, biological diversity, wildlife habitat quality, and forage value
TRM partners with property owners to thin juniper and reduce fuel hazards. Thinning and fuel hazard reduction can reduce the amount and severity of wildfires, damages to life, property, and natural resources, air quality and public health impacts from wildfire smoke, and fire suppression costs. In addition, these actions improve local watersheds by saving as much as 100,000 gallons of water per acre per year and encourage more rapid growth of the remaining trees, resulting in bigger and more robust trees.
TRM can quickly mechanically shear juniper trees for later burning or, more importantly, mulch trees onsite for a fraction of what an arborist would charge.
According to data from the National Interagency Fire Center, the average wildfire size in the United States has increased from less than 40 acres in the 1980s and early 1990s to more than 120 acres in 2017 and 2018. Wildfire smoke exposure can impact human health by exacerbating respiratory health issues, such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Estimated water savings of 100,000 gallons of water per acre per year
Decreased risk of catastrophic wildfire and damage to watersheds
Improved stream flows and native fish habitat
Improved plant and animal health and biodiversity
Increased carbon sequestration
“The juniper-dominated lands of central and eastern Oregon are being squandered…and the environmental quality and resilience of its landscape are threatened.”

The Drying of Oregon
Oregon has an estimated nine million acres of juniper lands, with nearly two million in Crook County alone. The potential water use of western juniper within the current juniper area is 500,000-920,000-acre-feet per year. This is equivalent to:
TRM offers an environmentally sensitive solution to reducing your wildfire risk through selective thinning and juniper removal.
During your consultation, TRM will learn about your concerns and assess your property.
Grant funding is available to help finance the removal of juniper. TRM can provide information on funding opportunities.
